Cooters

What would a trip to Nashville be without a visit to Cooters Garage. Actually its a Dukes of Hazzard museum which is located right next to the Willie Nelson museum. Inside you will find tons of pictures and collectibles from the Dukes of Hazzard television series, but without a doubt was the opportunity to see 4 of the vehicles used in the series, the General Lee, Cooters tow truck, Daisy’s Jeep and of course a Hazzard county police car.

The museum was free, but there is a charge to take your picture inside the car (which is why Mary is outside of the General Lee). Fret not Hazard fans, we did purchase several souveniers to support this fun tourist site.

James 1.80 Financial Setback & Mary’s Ford Fusion

It’s been a while since posting here, most of Feb was spent shoveling snow. Jame’s school work is still going very well and his speech improves every day. He had a couple of snow days in February.

Last week Mary, Peg, James, and myself went to Kroger. Each Sunday James returns the bottles and cashes in the money for candy or toys. This week was no exception and James pushed all the bottles into the machine and got his receipt for $1.80 which he put in his pocket and we made our way to the cashier. Unfortunately the lines were way way long and James did not want to wait, so he found him mom and gave her the receipt and James and I walked out toward the car (we usually listen to the radio when Peg/Mary are grocery shopping). As we were walking to the car, James looks up at me, a look of frustration in his face, and says. “$1.80, All Gone”.

Mary turned in her 10 year old Kia and got a Ford Fusion so my father can stop rolling over in his grave that we bought a Japanese car. The car served its purpose, but was 10 years old with a broken seat and a few other malfunctions. We only have one picture of the new car because it has been buried in snow most of the time in the driveway. Thanks to our neighbor Allen who works for Fords and got us something called a “friend and family” discount.

Tony Stewart #20 Car 2008

Tony Stewart had just announced that he would be leaving Home Depot to start his own race team, so Home Depot had sort of a farewell tour for the Tony Stewart #20 car and it came to the Home Depot in Allen Park. Tony Stewart is Mary’s favorite driver so she did not want to miss seeing the car, although she almost did, they were loading it up when we arrived but the crew was nice enough to give her a tour and she got to snap a couple pics off before they drove to their next stop. Tony Stewart was replaced by Joey Logano who is an up and coming driver in his own rights, but Tony is still Mary’s favorite no matter what team he is racing for. He is an exceptional driver.

Cold Water Car Show and Flea Market 2008

We already had a pretty full day today, beginning with the magic flea market in Colon, and then the the petting zoo, but on the way home we stopped for a few hours at the Cold Water Car Show. Mary spent most of the time looking at the hundreds of classic cars that were lined up outside while James and I searched around the flea market part of the show. Obviously Mary had the camera and she did a great job getting shots of all the classic cars for the website.

I think the only picture we got of James was the one here with his dad in front of the spider grill car, the rest of the nearly 200 pics are of cars.

Nascar Race MIS 2007

We had never been to a Nascar race before, so we bought 3 tickets to the Sunday race at MIS. We drove out there but unfortunately it was raining and the race was cancelled, so we drove back home. The next day I took off from work and the 3 of us drove out to MIS and once again the race was cancelled due to rain so we drove back home.

I was slowly becoming an expert at driving to MIS, yet have never seen a race. finally on the third day, after a fog delay, the race was finally ran. Check out the pics of Jeff Gordon spun out in the mud and the crew having to push him out. Those are Mary’s favorites.

Some of the pics may look blurry, but its actually fog. These were 3 really rotten days for a Michigan August. After the race we stopped at a bar in Clinton the people behind us owned. We got a free dinner and brew/pop. Turned out to be a great day. The race was won by Kurt Busch.

The Henry Ford Motor Muster 2007

It was Motor Muster time at Greenfield Village and we all went down to see the cars. Mary took a bunch of pictures of the automobiles that were on display and James and I enjoyed seeing all the cars mixed in with the historic village. They had a parade down mainstreet and awards were given out for several categories of classic cars. James takes after his mom and really enjoys cars and such, hopefully he will be more mechanically oriented than his dad who cannot even change his own oil (I tried once but pour oil into the radiator and everything had to be drained, what a mess).

The Short Cut

We went to a wedding reception, think it was in Wyandotte.

Dad of course got drunk as usual, he usually took home a couple of glasses when he drank but this time since he paid for a gift for the happy couple he decides that he is taking home a chair and yes he did take it out of there, don’t know how but he did.

It was raining on the way home and mom is trying to tell him how to go and he tells her that he knows a short cut and to shut up.

We take this short cut and get stuck in the mud from all the rain, not knowing where the hell we are or at least I didn’t because you could not see for the rain again.

Next day they come back for the car and it was stuck right in the middle of a baseball field.

Dad’s short cut, he didn’t know where he was either.

Telegraph Dream Cruise 2006

This is a new dream cruise that is just getting started and hopefully will rival the Woodward one. We usually sit in front of the antique store and sometimes bring the Nash. Mary is from a car loving family and knows much more about cars than I do. She takes pictures of the cars, then prints the photos and makes an album out of them. She then sends the album to her Dad (Howard) who is in a nursing home down in Tennessee. Her dad enjoys the pictures and getting a chance to see all the classic cars that he drove in his youth.

Grandma’s Nash

Our Parents would leave me (Peggy) and my sister Chris with our Dads Parents for a weekend, while they did other things. Our Grandmother and Aunt Ginny would take us to the Drive-In in their Nash. My Grandmother and Aunt Ginny would always have their hearts set on romantic movies. My sister and I didn’t care what was on the screen, it was what was in the trunk of the car we like. (more…)

Telegraph Dream Cruise 2005

James went with us to watch the antique cars at the Telegraph Dream Cruise. It was pretty hot that day so we didn’t stay long in the sun. Mary stuck it out because she enjoys cars and she wants to support this new dream cruise.

Mary used to live in Ferndale and during the Woodward Dream Cruise we would have front row seats, so we are hoping the Telegraph dream cruise will eventually be as big.

Only time will tell.
