Colon Car Show & Magic Festival

It was magic week in Colon Michigan and the whole family went to share in the festivities. There was a car show this year and it was a pretty big success considering it was the first one for the city of Colon. Each car had a bucket out front and you were supposed to throw a quarter into your favorite cars bucket. The car with the most quarters wins a prize! There were loads of prizes donated by the various local shops so more than half of the cars shown in these pictures received prizes.

James did his usual romp around the craft fair and local beach, Mary took in the evening magic show which featured some of the worlds best magicians. Dad got to spend some time in the magic shop (which is always a fun experience for me) and also went on the graveyard tour where famous magicians like Blackstone are buried.

4th of July Parade 2008

This is Colon MI, the Magic Capital of the World, and each year they have a huge parade and festival to celebrate the 4th. James has a blast each time he comes here. There is also a arts and craft show with games for kids and prizes for them as well. After the parade, and golf, and swimming, we finished up the day at our friends Walter and Mary’s house where they had a barbecue until the evening fireworks show began. James slept all the way home after staying up for the fireworks, a better night sleep was never had by anyone I think.

Traverse City 2008

The trip down from Mackinaw sometimes gives us a chance to stop places we normally don’t plan on, like this day we spent at Traverse City. The train ride goes right along side the beach and was alot of fun not only for James but for us as well. It has little crossings where pedestrians have to wait as the train putts along. The shopping district is right across the street and has not changed all that much since my last visit which was during my softball days in the 90′s. James made a friend and they had a blast building sand castles while Mary and I relaxed on the beach.

Houghton Lake 1997

Our friend Ernie and his family have a cottage up North and we decided to spend a day fishing at Houghton Lake. The first stop was to get fishing licenses and such, then we went to the pontoon rental place and rented a boat which we proceeded to stock with the finer accessories of fishing (ie brew).

We ended the day pulling into a bar that was on the dock and had dinner, then returned the boat safe and sound back to its owner. Jim was the only to catch anything other than sun that day, but he let the fish go once he got a picture of it.
