O.W. Best Awards Night

It was a special night for James as he attended the O.W. Best awards night and came away with two awards, one for character and the other for extra effort. The ceremony lasted about an hour and afterwards refreshments were served for everyone. Mom and Dad were in attendance and could not have been more proud of James, especially since he transferred to O.W. Best from Lincoln Park in the middle of the school year which could not have been easy, but he did a great job of it. James last day of Middle School was a half day tomorrow, so for all intensive purposes this was his graduation ceremony. Video’s of the event are below the pictures.

O.W. Best Dance

This was James first dance at O.W. Best and he had a great time. The dance was a little bit more formal than the ones he had at Lincoln Park since it was 8th graders only and was sort of a graduation dance as these kids will be heading into Annapolis next year. James said the music was good, but it was not live as they had a DJ (which is cool).

O.W. Best Honor Roll

We are pleased to announce that James has made the honor roll at O.W. Best Middle School in Dearborn Heights. His classes include Math, US History, Mastering Common Core, Science, Language Arts, and Life Skills.

James is running track this quarter and will have to keep the grades high if he wants to continue running track so this quarter will be an even bigger challenge for him.

Congratulations James, we are all very proud of you.

OW Best Track Team

James is on the OW Best track team and does a couple events. This is really the first organized sports that James had ever participated in while in school and James is making the best of it. We had to take James in for a sports physical and instead of picking him up at school we pick him up at the track (unless it rains) so its been a good experience for Mom and Dad as well, sitting in the stands and watching all the events. The average track meet takes over two hours so by the time James gets finished its well past 6pm and he is hungry and thirsty as one might imagine.

Annapolis Orientation

James got a post card letting him know that he would be going from OW Best Middle School to Annapolis High School and that he was invited to an orientation. This night was very exciting for James as he was about to walk into his school for the next four years. Mom, Dad, and James all went and watched the slide show and lectures in the auditorium. This was Dads first time at Annapolis since he graduated there in 1979 (38 years ago) and the place looked pretty much the same. The pool was still there, but the senior drinking fountain was gone, probably politically incorrect in this age. James had a blast and afterwards everyone was invited to the cafeteria for cookies and drinks and to meet the staff of Annapolis High School. (more…)

James Tours O.W. Best

James will be changing schools sometime in January 2017 as he goes back to the Dearborn Heights school system (which means no more bus rides and 5am wakeups). To help him with the transfer all his past teachers from Lincoln Park joined us Monday morning for a tour of OW Best.

Upon arrival it was a “late start Monday” (or something similar) where the students did not have to show up for the first hour of class, which left the school relatively empty for the tour. James got a free t shirt and a few other perks and got to see all three of his past teachers at the same venue.

Many thanks to the teachers and administrators at Dearborn Heights and Lincoln Park for making this happen.

Henry Ford Field Trip with LPMS

20161027_130357James and his classmates visited the Henry Ford Museum today and he said he had an absolutely wonderful time. Originally it was planned to be a visit to the Village but wet weather in the morning forced the class into the museum. After the visit James did get to visit the Village and rode the train with his family since Mom & Dad went there to pick him up and save James the two bus rides he would have to take to get home (one back to the school and another to his home). Greenfield Village is still decorated for Halloween and had a thousand pumpkins decorating the village, which is adds to the Fall atmosphere. (more…)

Howell Nature Center 2016

20160801_072506For the second year in a row James was invited to attend the Howell Nature Center camp for 5 days. This is without a doubt one of the biggest highlights of the year for James as he is not burdened with Mom and Dad for a few days and can just enjoy life and the great outdoors with his friends from Lincoln Park Middle School. The kitties we have did not know what to think since James usually returns from school or Vip Camp around 3-4 so they stared at the front window during that period of day. James phoned home a couple times and finally returned to us on a rainy Friday afternoon where we picked him up and treated him to lunch.

Cedar Point Reward For Good Attendance

IMG_0552James was rewarded for good attendance with a trip to Cedar Point. This would be his second field trip in as many days, the other being Greenfield Village yesterday. We had to drive James to school so that he would be on the bus at 7:15am, then we picked him back up at school at about 10:00pm that night so the kids really got their money’s worth out of the event. The weather could not have been more perfect and James said he enjoyed the roller coasters the most which continues a great tradition of roller coaster riders in the family. In addition to his Mom and Dad both enjoying roller coasters, his Aunt Criss and Cousin Ron are also big time roller coaster fans. Big thanks to his teacher Mr Jernigan for the pictures toward the end of the gallery, the beginning of the gallery are general Cedar Point pics that day taken by Dad who was working in Cleveland that day. Greenfield Village Field Trip

gfIMG_0493James got to go on a field trip with his seventh grade class and had a blast. Mom and Dad picked him up at the village to save him the long bus ride home from school (James does not care for the long afternoon bus ride although he does not seem to mind the early bus ride to school). The night before James said he was “tasked” with providing orange drink for the class and bought a pitcher and made everyone orange drink. Mom and Dad were a little suspect as he added more sugar but he claimed he knew what he was doing and it was his special recipe. We packed his orange drink in a cooler but to be safe we went out and added a couple packs of those fruit drinks just in case. Big thanks to his teacher Mr Jernigan for the pictures.
