Thanksgiving 2018

What an awesome Thanksgiving we had this year, first watching the parade on TV then chowing down on Turkey and Stuffing.  We then watched the Lions lose to the Bears in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day game, a tradition which goes back to the thirties!  Later we called Uncle Don to wish him happy birthday as his birthday this year happened to fall on Thanksgiving.

The next day we visited Aunt Peg then began decorating for Christmas.

Saturday was the big game with Ohio state and, unfortunately, Ohio state won relatively easily despite the fact that Michigan was favored.

Despite the lousy football, it was a great time for the family.

Frankenmuth & Bronners Over Thanksgiving Weekend

We spent the last day (Sunday) of the Thanksgiving holiday up in Frankenmuth MI. Bronners was so crowded we actually could not find a parking place so we skipped ahead to the Mall – where carolers were performing Christmas songs – and had lunch at the Bavarian Inn. We sat in the Snow White room (which is unusual, we usually sit in the little red riding hood room) and were entertained with live music and a visit from Santa. We then went back to Bronners which was a little less crowded and enjoyed the sites and sounds of Christmas. (more…)

Thanksgiving 2016

What a great Thanksgiving it was this year as the Lions won again and took over sole possession of First Place in their division. The meal was again outstanding and we snacked on devil eggs all day long. After the game we began putting up the Christmas decorations and the weather was reasonable as well.

At 6pm their was a black Friday sale at Walmart (on Thursday) and James begged us to take him. The place was an absolute mad house but James did make it and bought a couple things. It also gave us a chance to see what the decorations looked like on our way home.

All in all a very fun day.

Thanksgiving 2015

20151125_171217Great weather for Thanksgiving this year, and a big win for the Lions as they slaughtered the Philadelphia Eagles 45-14. What makes the Lion wins so good this year is that a new Papa John Pizza opened (in the old dairy queen on Telegraph and Colgate) and when you use the code Lions50 (you have to order it online to get the discount) you get your entire purchase half off the next day. So while we certainly ate well on Thursday we also were treated to a feast on Friday thanks to the Lions and Papa Johns. Because the weather was so good we were able to get most the Christmas decorations up without having to get too cold. In the past we have had blizzards and snowfalls but fortunately that wasn’t the case this year. Hopefully this will be the forerunner to a warmer winter than we have had in the past couple years as we have had some brutal winters lately. Regardless, this Thanksgiving we had the windows open, got the decorations up, and a great time was had by all.

Thanksgiving 2014

20141127_120010James picked out the turkey this year and Mom did her usual great job of cooking it up with stuffing and such. Devil eggs kept James happy while the turkey cooked as the family watched the Detroit parade which was immediately proceeded by the Detroit Lion game. We were pleasantly surprised when the Lions won their second consecutive Thanksgiving game which certainly added to the festivities. After the Lions game we began setting up Christmas decorations and by the end of the weekend, our Holiday decorating was complete. James also managed to make one of the first snowmen of the season, although he was limited by lack of snow (lets hope this continues).
