While placing flowers at our family graves a sax player was playing to some of the graves.

Mothers Day 2017

The weather held out for us and we were able to make Mothers day a special day. First we went to Michigan Memorial to lay flowers on the graves, we got flowers that were just ready to bloom so we are hoping they last more than a couple days like the ones in the past. James did the water part of the job and while we were doing it we heard someone serenading a grave with a sax, I don’t remember ever seeing that before. I snapped a video of it so maybe you can hear some of what we heard.

After Michigan Memorial we went to the antique store in Flat Rock, then on to Red Robins where we had a great Mothers day lunch. All in all a great day for Mom.

Mothers Day 2016

20160508_095817The weather was perfect this Mothers day. The day began with a trip to Michigan Memorial Cemetery where we put flowers on everyone’s grave. The flowers were so new that they had not bloomed yet so they should look pretty good all week. We were very pleased to see how well maintained Raymond’s grave was compared to in the past. After the flowers we went and ate lunch at Red Lobster where Mom got crab linguini, Dad got the sailors platter, and James got crab legs. The next stop was the antique store where Mom got to do a little shopping, followed by a trip to Dearborn Market for some flowers. All in all a real great day! (more…)

Moms Day 2015

20150510_112913 The day started off by getting Aunt Peg’s phone working which got us off to a little late start but we managed to catch up and have a lot of fun. First stop on this sunny Sunday was Memorial cemetery where we put flowers on the family graves in honor of Mothers day. James did the water pouring and Mom did the flowers while Dad took pictures. Of special note were the flowers we put into Loretta Kleibers vase (James grandmother on his fathers side) because these flowers were actually planted by Loretta years ago. There is one spot in the backyard where these flowers she planted still come up every spring and so we thought we would give her flowers she planted from her own garden. Uncle Raymond’s grave once again had to have some upkeep, we hope to call the cemetery Monday to remind them to give Uncle Raymond a flag since they missed it last year.

After the visit to the cemetery we went to Mary’s favorite place, an antique shop in Flat Rock where Jame’s met a 200 year old cabinet he liked. Finally lunch time rolled around and we went to Red Lobster in Monroe then finished the afternoon shopping at Christmas Tree Shop and Walmart. (more…)

Mothers Day 2014

20140511_120501Another beautiful day for Mom, and the weather wasn’t bad either! The day started out as a typical Sunday as we took Aunt Peg shopping. Afterwards, we went out to the cemetery and paid our respects. James cleaned up some of the graves and added flowers to others. The weather was so perfect and bright that we could not see the pic in the view finder and kind of just shot blindly. We visited both the Kleiber side of the family and the Graf side of the family.

We noticed the rock around Jame’s Great Grandfather Graf is beginning to break. The grave is 70 years old so its probably not a surprise. Also Aunt Peg thought that there would be a temporary marker for Aunt Louise out there, unfortunately there wasn’t yet.

We traveled a little further South to one of Mary’s favorite antique shops where she got a little shopping spree as a Mothers day gift. We’ve pretty much done this same routine every Mothers day but deviated a little by eating at a Mexican restaurant instead of a Chinese restaurant (we had Chinese the day before on the way back from the Flea Market).

A fun time was had by all – Happy Mothers day!

Mothers Day 2013

20130512_110051These pics were taken a couple days before and a couple days after Mothers day. The day before Mothers day Mary worked a flea market with James. Then on Mothers day we took Grandma and Mom out to dinner at the China Buffet (which now has a Sushi bar, for those who like that type of thing). Then we took the Mom’s out to Flat Rock to shop at an antique store there, then stopped at Aunt Peg’s to drop off some items and pick some items up. Later on that week we went to the Wyandotte city wide garage sale and James got to play at the park. Finally James created a word search puzzle with his name and some of his friends, pretty clever. Fathers Day 2011

What an awesome Fathers day Dad had. First, I got to watch the Jeff Bridges version of True Grit, then a few hours later got to watch the John Wayne version of True Grit. But the biggest and best surprise came when James Raymond made dessert for his Dad. Mom helped a little, especially with the stove, but for the most part James did the work himself. Needless to say we all got to have a nice healthy sweet treat on Fathers day.

The Weather was perfect today and the entire family got to have various outdoor activities. James and Dad played soccer and basketball while Mom went on her walk to Penn Park. (more…)

Mothers Day 2011

This year Mothers Day was a little different than usual. First, we did not travel to our usual Chinese restaurant in Flat Rock, but went to our normal Chinese restaurant in Taylor with Aunt Peg. Aunt Peg joined us on our trip to Michigan Memorial Cemetery where we placed flowers on all the graves. On the way home Aunt Peg wanted to get some things from the store so we dropped her off and took James to the park for a few minutes while Aunt Peg shopped. We picked Aunt Peg up and took her home and had a great day. The weather was perfect (however the two weeks before was all rain and the two weeks after would be all rain).

Grandma is still recovering from her broken leg and arm so she did not make the trek with us, however the next day we surprised her with a McDonalds breakfast.

A different Mothers day but just as fun as the ones in the past.

Fathers Day 2009

What a surprise I had today, James came home and had several crafts that he had made for Fathers day. There was a key holder, and pictures of him making the key holder out of wood. What a surprise. James showed us the card he made as well, it had a picture of him holding a happy Fathers day sign. Thanks James

Mothers Day at Sterling Park 2004

We spent the day at Sterling Park, it was a bright and sunny day and James looked like he was ready to do something more than play in his playpen. James got to play in beach sand for the first time and had much fun playing in the grass as well. Mary had gotten me a new 35mm camera and I was very anxious to try it out, so these are the first pics with the camera. Lots of first today!

Sterling Park is located in Monroe MI and is the same park that I had my going away party when I went in the service so it has special memories for me as well.
